Ambrosia General &
a Family Business
Ambrosia General and Industrial Supplies is not just a business it is a story. Founded by Suzan Jansen in 2000 when her husband also had his own business, and with that also its own story, had difficulty getting reputable and quality safety equipment decided to "open shop" and distribute, buy and sell quality safety equipment.
As with all start up businesses it was... slow to grow, small and weak. Suzan was one hell of a persistent lady. She never gave up. Every day attending to her business, caring for it, seeing that it is well and nurtured it like a baby. Slowly she built up stock always keeping an ear on the ground as to what the nearby workers required. She never forced anyone to buy form her, although she appreciated all business but her edge was availability of quality safety products that had the bell rung at the door.
The business was small there wasn't any fancy accounting software and staff to help unpack and pack shelves she had to do everything herself. It is a fact that Suzan Jansen did not have any finger prints, could this be that she worked her finger prints off? Well she also raised three children and worked as a secretary for her husband in his own business so this might very well be true.
Suzan's was persistent to make a success of her business, she took pride in her accomplishments, but still remained humble. Ambrosia Safety grew from a crying baby into a crawling toddler. Now Toddlers require more attention as they get busy and if a close eye is not kept they might just wander off or worse get hurt, Ambrosia needed to get more staff and now accounting software as this would be what Ambrosia needed to become a child and to grow to a bigger business with potential. You would certainly give your child what is needed to thrive won't you? She employed Jack Magagga en Ernst Jansen and got an accounting software as an excel spreadsheat as a invoice was not acceptable anymore. As with any business cash flow is a problem and Ambrosia could not afford a bigger premises to expand to. Suzan opted for a small store room within walking distance from the main premises and additional goods was stored and filled from this storeroom. Jack and Ernst walked kilometers a day to fill the shelves from this store. This was like a secret weapon as no one knew about the store and thought Ambrosia did not carry a lot of stock. Business was coming in but Ambrosia remained small. Still Suzan was committed. Suzan saved some money to invest in an Embroidery Machine, funds were tight but a one-head embroidery machine was bought just to get into the branding business. This machine worked day and night to pay itself off and to acquire some extra sideline business. One day a Very Big Company had a tender out for safety equipment and Suzan decided to take a chance with Ambrosia to compete for this HUGE clients business, against other well established Safety Equipment Suppliers. Suzan did not have a clue as to how to compete with these businesses or to complete the tender all she had was Ambrosia Safety her persistence her strong will integrity and humbleness poured into this young business to try and make it succeed. Ambrosia won the tender. It was a fight like that of David and Goliath, Ambrosia is David and the other Safety Equipment Suppliers was Goliath, Ambrosia was small compared to the opposition but was victorious. Ambrosia grew into a Kid and more staff was needed. Louise Badenhorst joined in as bookkeeper but still things were too busy- more staff was needed. Ciska Jansen, Suzan's Daughter in Law also got employed and business grew even more, a bigger Embroidery Machine and Vehicles was needed. Ambrosia General and industrial supplies the almost human being like business with the heart and soul of Suzan and her values and blessing from God grew from strength to strength and Leandi Jansen also become apart of the business. Ambrosia Safety became a force to be reckoned with, in the years to come.
Sadly Suzan become ill and unfortunately passed away. Ambrosia General and Industrial supplies is all what remain of her legacy, her caring, selfless and humble spirit is what remains in Ambrosia, in her staff and between these walls. Her commitment and persistence to grow is what Ambrosia General and Industrial Supplies is all about.
